Nigerian Student Leader Attacked By Gunmen In Ondo

 

 A group of unknown gunmen attacked Afolayan Simon Awodola, the president of the National Association of Ondo State Students.

According to Sahara Reporters, the victim is an undergraduate student at the University of Benin where he is in his final year.
A source familiar with the incident told correspondents that Awodola was cruelly beaten in Benin City, the capital of Edo state.
“They used a cutlass to cut Awodola on the forehead after he tried to fight back,
“I understand that the assault happened around 9pm on Saturday in Benin,” the source revealed.
He said Awodola had been in a dispute with some officials of the Ondo state government, especially Olumuyiwa Asagunla, the senior special assistant on youth and student affairs to Governor Olusegun Mimiko, and Aderotimi Adelola, the secretary to the state government.

Lasu Produce Six First Class , 6885 Graduates

No fewer than 6,885 graduates of the Lagos State University (LASU) will receive their diploma, first and higher degrees during the 20th convocation ceremony, the Vice Chancellor, Prof John Obafunwa has revealed.

Addressing newsmen on the forthcoming convocation ceremony, Prof Obafunwa also disclosed that the university produced six First Class graduates from Engineering (1), Law (1), Science (1), Social Sciences and one (Management Science) from Part-Time programme.

The VC disclosed that the university would not award any honorary degrees in line with the directive of Governor Babatunde Fashola and the decision of the Governing Council.

Afe Babalola University Hikes Fees Of Medical Students From 1.7m to 2.6m – Becomes Most Expensive In Nigeria

We’ve been getting quite a number of emails from the medical students of Afe Babalola University. Apparently their school fees was increased today from N1.7m to N2.6m and they are very unhappy about it.“Behold the most expensive university in Nigeria. In view of the current hike in fees which is really bizarre we as students have expressed our sincere disappointment but this is not a single battle. Initially, the fees was approximately N1.7m but rose overnight to N2.6m. Our parents are complaining and we are feeling their pains because they want us to achieve our dreams.We really need the social media to join us in this battle. This exploitation must stop. We can’t protest because we will be expelled” A student wrote inAnother student wrote;“I a 300level Medical Student at the Afe Babalola University. I would like to use this medium to inform you that there was an increase in the fees of medical students at the clinical level today by over 1.4 million Naira totaling the fee to about 2.6 million Naira.There had been an outrageous and unacceptable outcry by the students. Please your support in this fight against extortion and exploitation would be so much appreciated by the entire student community.”Their fees were increased from over 900k which they had been paying originally, to over 1million and then to the heavily debatable 1.7million to the unbelievably outstanding and outlandish 2.6million, which it is unfairly set at, right this moment. There have been calls for justice and change by many of the ABUAD students, not just those in the 400 level but in 300, 200 and even the 100 levels, and even students from other departments.

THE STRESS OF ACCREDITATION

Na wa for this "higher boarding school" called fuoye oooo. it has been seen that as a criteria for the ongoing accreditation of courses particularly in the faculty of social sciences that students should submit their course forms and schol receipts. Students have been complaining in various departments because of the rigours and stress they've had to go through  just to get their receipts stamped and to print out their course forms. Some 300lvl students have even been stressed out to the fact that they were asked to go get their 100lvl course reg forms. (i mean in what school is that done?????. as one psychology lecturer will say, "its never done in UI")
